EDITORIAL AND PEER-REVIEW PROCESS
-
The Kosin Medical Journal (KMJ) adheres to a painstaking process for manuscript review. Upon receiving submissions, the managing editor undertakes an initial quality check, meticulously examining potential issues like conflicting interests, adherence to editorial policies, ethical standards, and financial disclosures. At this stage, manuscripts may be returned to authors for necessary changes or clarifications. The manuscripts then undergo a comprehensive evaluation for format and academic relevance before being sent to at least two investigators for detailed content review. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain concealed, as the review process is double-blind.
-
The selection of peer reviewers is made based on recommendations from Editorial Board members or the specialist database. Occasionally, a review of the statistical analysis is requested for meticulous evaluation. It is noteworthy to mention that members of the editorial board are also permitted to submit articles with no preferential treatment given or their board status influencing editorial decisions.
-
The acceptance or rejection of a manuscript hinges on the critiques and evaluations of the referees, who may recommend acceptance, minor or major revisions, or rejection. In cases where there is a divergence in decisions between referees or between the author and reviewers, the editor may seek additional comments and recommendations from another reviewer.
-
Reviewers' comments and suggested revisions are returned to the corresponding author. The reviewers' identities and decisions must remain anonymous. Ultimately, the Editorial Office communicates the final decision on acceptance or rejection to the corresponding author.
-
The most common reasons for rejection include overly specific topics or limited target audiences, insufficient originality, substantial scientific flaws, poor quality illustrations, or a lack of significance to readers. For example, the rarity of a disease condition alone cannot justify the rejection of a case report. The peer-review process typically takes two to three weeks after receiving the manuscript.
-
Authors are requested to address criticisms and comments from reviewers in their revisions. The revised manuscript should be resubmitted through the KMJ web portal. Failure to resubmit within two months without notice is considered a withdrawal. The corresponding author must make point by point indications to the alterations undertaken in response to reviewer comments and provide acceptable reasons for any noncompliance with these recommendations.
EDITORIAL POLICY
-
The Editor of KMJ operates on the premise that all authors included in a manuscript have diligently acknowledged and accepted the journal's submission policy. As part of this policy, manuscripts that have been preprinted on platforms such as medRxiv, bioRxiv, or similar repositories are eligible for submission to the Journal. However, manuscripts that have already been published in other journals will not be considered for publication, except under special circumstances negotiated for secondary publication. In the event that there is a need to add or remove an author after the initial submission, it becomes the sole responsibility of the corresponding author to communicate the changes to the concerned authors and secure their agreement regarding the revised authorship. The Journal, in this context, disclaims any responsibility for managing such alterations.
-
To facilitate the processing and publication of manuscripts, the Journal imposes minimum article processing charges for every accepted submission. Once published, all manuscripts become the permanent intellectual property of the Kosin University College of Medicine and are subject to copyright protection. Unauthorized publication or reproduction elsewhere without the explicit written permission from the Journal is strictly prohibited to safeguard the integrity and originality of the scholarly work.
